Whitesnake guitarist Joel Hoekstra has addressed speculation surrounding an upcoming performance billed as “Whitesnake Experience.” He clarified the nature of the event in a detailed statement shared on Instagram.

The guitarist’s statement aimed to dispel rumors that the performance represents a new band or ongoing project without David Coverdale’s involvement.

“Just so everyone understands clearly what is happening,” Hoekstra said. “This is not a band. This is not a project. This is an isolated show and nothing more.”

Hoekstra explained that similar performances have occurred before. He referenced a previous show in France.

“We actually did one of these already July 21, 2023 at Guitare-en Scene in France,” he continued. “I believe we were just billed as ‘All-Star Band’ for that. Tommy Aldridge and Reb Beach were unavailable for that. Perhaps Tommy’s involvement in this upcoming show and the decision (by others) to bill it as Whitesnake Experience has caused the stir.”

The guitarist emphasized that he had sought Coverdale’s permission for both performances out of respect.

“I had reached out to David Coverdale regarding Guitare-En Scene (when I was asked to participate) to make sure that the appearance was ok with him,” Hoekstra said. “That call was placed out of respect and quite simply, to do the right thing. David essentially replied ‘sure, have fun!'”

He clarified Coverdale’s stance on the upcoming Serbian show. He also addressed speculation about the event’s significance.

“When this upcoming show in Serbia was booked, I did the same thing and David came back with the same reply,” he explained. “David has not endorsed this as a project or band. He simply gave me permission to participate. Any misleading info making this seem like it’s more than one show is inappropriate and sensationalistic in nature.”

Hoekstra also addressed questions about band member participation. He concluded with gratitude toward Coverdale.

“I’ve also seen some people wondering why Reb Beach isn’t going to be there and it’s my understanding that Reb was unavailable for the show,” he said. “I know this all seems a bit much, but I don’t think it’s fair to anyone involved to have this appear as if we are doing anything more than a ‘show.’ So, thank you DC for giving your blessing to us to go have some fun and play together!”

The confusion surrounding the “Whitesnake Experience” billing highlights the ongoing interest in the band’s legacy. It also shows the various tribute acts that celebrate their music.

The speculation about Hoekstra’s involvement comes at a time when Whitesnake remains active in the touring circuit. Whitesnake Tour reported that the band has tour dates scheduled for 2025. These include performances at various venues across the U.S. and appearances at major festivals like the Donington Download festival in the UK.

The existence of multiple tribute acts has contributed to the confusion surrounding Hoekstra’s announcement. Songkick documented that there are established tribute bands operating under similar names. This may have led fans to believe that Hoekstra’s performance represented something more permanent than a one-off show.

The tribute band scene for classic rock acts has grown significantly in recent years. Many professional musicians participate in these performances. Vivid Seats showed that tribute acts like “Slow N Easy – The Whitesnake Experience” regularly tour and perform at various venues. This creates a market for fans who want to experience classic songs in a live setting.

Hoekstra’s careful approach to seeking Coverdale’s permission reflects the respect that exists within the rock community regarding band names and legacy acts. The guitarist’s transparency about the limited nature of his involvement demonstrates his commitment to maintaining the integrity of the Whitesnake brand. He still allows fans to enjoy the music in different contexts.

The statement appears to have successfully clarified the limited scope of the upcoming performance.
