When Courtney Love Committed Fraud To Get Information About Dave Grohl
Courtney Love is a singer-songwriter and an actress who is mostly known for her relationship with Nirvana’s legendary frontman Kurt Cobain. Apart from that, she is also an important figure in the alternative and grunge music scenes of the 1990s. Love rose to success as the lead vocalist of her band Hole and she is still working on making new music.
Apart from her musical career, Courtney is known for making the headlines with her highly publicized personal life as well as her controversial live performances. During one of those performances, she had a breakdown and targeted Dave Grohl. Later on, Love admitted that she conducted serious fraud after the incident to get some information about Grohl. Let’s learn the details of what really happened.
Courtney Love Accused Dave Grohl Of Buying Cars Using Nirvana’s Money
Back in 2011, Courtney Love’s band Hole headlined the ‘New Stage’ at the SWU Festival in Paulínia, Brazil. At some point during the performance, Love spotted someone in the crowd holding a picture of Kurt Cobain. Following that, she told that person that she is not Kurt, so she doesn’t need to see a picture of him. Moreover, Love mentioned that Dave Grohl was kicked out of Nirvana by Cobain, and told the fan to go and do that at a Foo Fighters show.
Courtney Love said during the concert that:
“I don’t need to see a picture of Kurt, asshole. I’m going to have you fucking removed if you keep throwing that up. I’m not Kurt. Throwing that up is stupid and rude, and I’m gonna beat the fuck out of you if you do it again.
You know what? You weren’t fucking married to him, I fucking was. You didn’t get kicked out of a band by him, like Dave. He did. Go see the fucking Foo Fighters and do that shit.”
After that, Love left the stage in a fury. Hole’s guitarist then came back and demanded the crowd to yell ‘Foo Fighters are gay’ for Courtney to go back onstage. When the singer finally returned, she told the crowd that she doesn’t care about what they listen at home. However, she then implied that Grohl stole money off her kid’s table.
Courtney Love added that:
“I don’t care what you listen to at home, but if a guy takes money off my kid’s table, fuck him.”
After the concert, the drama continued as Love revealed in an interview that she had to lie in order to get information about Dave Grohl and his financial status.
Courtney Love Lied About Dave Grohl’s Death In Hopes Of Getting Information On Him
Following the incident, Love looked back on her remarks about Grohl in an interview. She said that Grohl makes so much money that is enough for him, but he used the Nirvana credit card to buy himself an Aston Martin. She then noted that her mother-in-law and sister-in-love live under horrible conditions, and this money belongs to them. Love went on to say Grohl made little to no contributions to Nirvana, and he didn’t even write the drum riff in the classic song ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit.’
Courtney Love talked about the incident in an interview as:
“People come to me and say ‘I love Nirvana.’ I wasn’t in Nirvana, however, I do own Nirvana with my daughter. Because of tax laws, I have to give the money to Kurt’s sister Kim Cobain and Wendy Cobain. What I was saying is Dave makes five million dollars a show, he doesn’t need the money. His mother’s a banker, his father is a stockbroker, and he’s making five million a show. He’s making things in the Foo Fighters. Why does he have a Nirvana Inc credit card and I don’t?
Last week, he bought an Aston Martin on it. Do you know that my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law are homeless? It pisses me off that my mother-in-law doesn’t have a front door in the winter, her boiler doesn’t work and Dave bought an Aston Martin last week. So, don’t tell me that you like Foo Fighters in front of me, or I will walk upstage and will never come back. I don’t care how much more popular they are, because Dave knows that I know. He didn’t write one note, he didn’t even write the drum riff in ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit.’ Kurt owns 100% of that publishing.”
Moreover, Love told MTV Brasil in a now-inaccessible interview that she found out about the purchases by committing fraud. She stated that she called the credit card company and pretended Dave and Krist Novoselic died in a plane crash. After that, she received the information about Dave Grohl’s car purchase.
As reported by Ultimate Guitar, Courtney Love stated in the interview that:
“Last weekend I pretended that Krist and Dave had died in a horrible plane crash. I called American Express. If it’s a fan at a bank or whatever, I’ll get information. If it’s a mean black lady, I’m not going to get any information.”
As it appears, the tactic worked and the singer learned the information she needed. Although the tactic of faking one’s identity to get information is a common way, Courtney Love might be among the first celebrities to use it for herself.
