In a recent interview with Vintage Rock Pod, Uli Jon Roth revealed that he had considered leaving The Scorpions to join another band in 1975. During the interview, while discussing his career, the guitarist shared his memories of the production of ‘In Trance’ and named the band that offered him to leave The Scorpions. The rocker started telling the story:

“We were recording a demo for ‘In Trance’ at Dierks Studios, and I got a phone call from the manager of Manfred Mann, who back then were a great live band. They probably still are, but I haven’t heard them recently, but they were much bigger than the Scorpions at that time, we did several support slots for them, and I think, Manfred Mann, they were looking for a new guitar player, and they figured that I might be the one for them.”

The guitarist then shared what tempted him about the offer:

“So they asked me to come and join the band essentially. And it was tempting because they were a very good band, and I would have ended up being in London, which would have really changed my life at this point.”

Ultimately, Roth changed his mind about leaving The Scorpions with the help of a couple of people. Revealing what caused him to change his mind, he said:

“But I remember Klaus and Rudolf, they actually talked me out of it, it took a whole way, way past midnight, it was. And we were friends, so I stayed, but I don’t know what would have happened had I left The Scorpions at that point in time.”

Even though the guitarist didn’t join Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, he eventually left The Scorpions for several other reasons, one of which was having a different kind of music in mind that would be unsuitable for The Scorpions.

The guitarist is now working solo and is scheduled to tour in 2024 under the Interstellar Sky Guitar World Tour. The tour is expected to start on April 2 and end on May 1, 2024.
