Tyler Joseph Details How Twenty One Pilots Was Fired By Tom Cruise

Twenty One Pilots recently joined an interview with Klein and Ally Morning Show, and Tyler Joseph mentioned how Tom Cruise fired everyone while writing a song for the movie ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ action drama movie directed by Joseph Kosinski was previously scheduled for July 12, 2019. However, the plans had changed because of the sudden pandemic. The premiere was at CinemaCon on April 28, 2022, and the release date in the United States is on May 27, 2022.

The cast includes significant artists like Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, and many more notable names from Hollywood. Also, in the previous days, the movie’s soundtrack was revealed. Lady Gaga composed ‘Hold My Hand’ with contributions from Hans Zimmer, Lorne Balfe, and Harold Faltermeyer.

In a recent conversation, Twenty One Pilots vocalist Tyler Joseph recalled creating a new song for ‘Top Gun.’ As Joseph revealed, Tom Cruise fired everyone in the process of composition shortly after they had just started to work on it. The singer stated that he only saw several scenes from the movie, and they were told that they would not work for the song.

Tyler Joseph explained in his words:

“I was working with the music placement person for the new ‘Top Gun’ writing a new song for them, and then I believe Tom Cruise just came in and just fired everyone. I saw some scenes. They brought me in and showed me some scenes, and I don’t think I started writing. It was pretty soon after they brought me in to show me parts of the movie of what they were looking for and stuff that I got word that it was going to be a wholesale swap.”

Despite its initial mixed critical reaction, the first film named ‘Top Gun’ was a huge commercial hit grossing $356 million with a production budget of only $15 million. Since the movie and its soundtrack maintained popularity over the years, the follow-up and new songs will most likely be as popular as the original works.
