Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello has addressed claims about the band’s ticket pricing and COVID-19 policies. He shared his response on X (formerly Twitter).
A fan had criticized the band’s 2022 tour ticket prices and venue policies. The criticism claimed tickets cost between $300-$600 and suggested the band supported COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
“Lies. 90% of tickets were $125,” Morello stated. “For the other 10% every single penny went to charity in each city.”
He further clarified the vaccination policy claims: “All the shows were sold out in 2019 before any vax mandates in place and all mandates had been lifted in every single venue, including the United Center, when we performed in 2022. ZERO fans required proof of vax or negative tests.”
These discussions reflect ongoing concerns about concert ticket pricing and pandemic-era venue policies in the music industry.
The controversy surrounded the “Public Service Announcement Tour,” which encountered multiple challenges during its run.
Loudwire reported the tour’s original schedule for March 31, 2022, in El Paso, Texas. The date was later moved to July 9, 2022, with a new opening show at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin.
The tour planned 38 dates across North America. Exclaim noted the schedule included festival appearances in Ottawa and Quebec City. The band had also planned additional dates for the UK and Europe.
Stereogum documented the tour’s unexpected conclusion. Lead vocalist Zack de la Rocha suffered a torn Achilles tendon during the second night of performances. The band officially canceled all remaining dates by October 2022.
Despite its shortened duration, the tour received positive reviews. Critics and fans praised the shows for their energy and powerful political messaging. The performances reinforced the band’s reputation for delivering intense live shows.
