In an interview with Cinema Blend, Tom DeLonge discussed the potential of a Blink-182 concert movie, drawing inspiration from Taylor Swift’s successful tour film.
“It always comes across the desk every few months. Some version. We’ve talked about doing something on this next tour that we just launched, like, today. Tickets go on sale on Friday. We’ve definitely talked about versions.”
As the reigning queen of Hollywood, Taylor Swift, took the box office by storm with her Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, it was a matter of curiosity whether other artists would follow her lead. DeLonge explained his idea for this topic involving dick jokes:
“You know, Taylor is a phenomenon. She can demand ticket sales. You and I both know how hard it is to get people to want to go to a movie theater. I don’t know if people would come to see Blink in a movie theater for the music, but they might come for the dick jokes (laugh). So maybe we focus on that?”
Blink-182’s live shows are based on hilarious banter between lifelong friends Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus. Dick jokes are nothing new for the duo, who make themselves laugh while entertaining the audience.
DeLonge Called The Swift Concept ‘Why Not?’

Swift’s concert film set a record as the highest-grossing concert film or documentary globally, earning $123.5 million in its opening weekend. As the NY Post noted by looking at Casa Azul’s Google Search results, Swift’s influence extends beyond cinemas, boosting TV ratings whenever she supports her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, at NFL football games. With Beyoncé already following Swift’s lead, exploring the potential of bands and artists venturing into the film domain arises.
DeLonge acknowledged Swift’s exceptional status in drawing audiences to theaters, highlighting the challenge of enticing people to movie theaters. Tom, supporting his directorial debut Monsters of California, a captivating exploration of aliens, Bigfoot, government conspiracies, and the Southern California punk scene, expressed openness to the concept.
As the band gears up for a North American headline tour in 2024, following their successful comeback shows in the US, Canada, Europe, and the UK, fans can anticipate more of Blink-182’s energetic and entertaining performances. Rescheduled gigs in Glasgow, Belfast, and Dublin are also on the horizon for the next summer.
