There comes a time when it becomes challenging to tour for months. After hitting the road for most of their lives, rockers naturally tend to step down at some point, and for Mick Mars, the time has come, which is not surprising considering his health condition. In light of the news of Mars retiring, Skid Row’s Dave Sabo shared with Appetite for Distortion that there’s no Mötley Crüe without Mars.
“That dude is a warrior, man. That dude is a warrior, you know,” said Sabo, sharing his admiration for the guitarist who has been in the game for so long. “I mean, you never heard a peep out of him. He just went about his business and did his thing too, you know, in a great way.”
He added, “There is no Mötley Crüe throughout history without Mick Mars, and so you know, I love the guy, and I am sad that he’s retiring, but I get it, of course.” Even though it’s sad that the rocker is taking a bow from the stage, Dave Sabo, who’s also been on stages and tours for many years, understands that at a certain point, you don’t have the willpower to continue further.
Mars, diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis in his teens, has been living with chronic pain and immobility. Although he has kept performing throughout the years, the 71-year-old’s health no longer allows it. Besides his health struggles, the guitarist doesn’t want to be on a tour bus for months anymore, which is more than understandable after doing it for so many consecutive years. Just like Sabo said, the 71-year-old is a warrior to have done that challenging job for such a long time.
