In Mersin, Türkiye, two apartment buildings named Metallica and Nirvana have gained attention, with the Metallica building showcasing the band’s iconic wordmark in blue lights. This building went viral recently, and the story behind it has been revealed. Constructed by Mosbah Drav, a 56-year-old rock and metal fan from Syria who immigrated to Türkiye in 2012, the building features a large Metallica logo illuminated by a neon sign on its roof. The metal-loving contractor said that although the adjacent apartment building was named Nirvana, the team that built it was unaware of the musical importance of the nickname.
Drav decided to name the building after Metallica as a tribute to his love for their music. Voice of Turkey reached out to him and interviewed Drav. In the interview, he shared:
“When I started this building, this construction, I planned to give it the name Metallica. Why? Because I like this music band, I like this music — hard rock, speed metal, Megadeth, Def Leppard.”
The Next Building Will Be Named After Guns N’ Roses

Drav has plans to continue his rock-band-inspired series of buildings. He disclosed that his next project will be a building named after Guns N’ Roses, featuring a ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ sign, indicating his ongoing passion for integrating his love of rock and metal music into his construction projects.
Adjacent to the Metallica building is another apartment complex named Nirvana. However Drav explained that it was a coincidence that the Nirvana building was located next to his building. He said:
“They don’t know the meaning of Nirvana. It’s a coincidence.”
Rent ‘Em All, Drav!
