Tenacious D has announced their first new project following the controversy that led to a temporary hiatus for the comedy rock duo, as reported on their official Instagram.
The band made an official announcement regarding their upcoming release.
“Tenacious D Complete Masterworks 3 Pre-order Now!” the band announced.
Jack Black had previously decided to take a break from the group after Kyle Gass made controversial comments during a live Tenacious D performance that drew significant backlash. This new project marks the duo’s first collaborative effort since resolving their differences and returning to work together.
The announcement comes as the duo prepares to release their most comprehensive collection yet. This signals their return to active collaboration after months of uncertainty.
BraveWords reported that the release is titled The Complete Masterworks Vol. 3 and is scheduled for October 3, 2025. The collection will be available on Blu-ray and DVD through MVD Entertainment Group. This marks a significant milestone for the comedy rock duo’s catalog.
The centerpiece of this release features footage from their sold-out headline show at London’s O2 Arena on June 16, 2023. This was part of their Spicy Meatball Tour. The official Tenacious D website confirmed that the performance showcases classic hits including “Tribute,” “The Metal,” and “Beelzeboss (The Final Showdown).” The footage captures the duo at their energetic best.
The package includes their animated film Post Apocalypto beyond the live performance. The film features both music and illustrations created by Jack Black himself. This addition demonstrates the creative versatility that has made Tenacious D a unique presence in both music and entertainment.
“This will be the one they remember us for. Guaranteed to blow your mind. The third and final Complete Masterworks. They will sell like hotcakes. Get them while they’re hot!!!” the band proclaimed in their announcement.
The release represents not just a return to form for Tenacious D. It also serves as a comprehensive showcase of their recent work, bridging the gap between their controversial hiatus and their renewed partnership moving forward.
