Ted Nugent joined an interview with Detroit Free Press and responded to the racism accusations against him and Kid Rock after having dinner with the president at the White House.
“He’s not a racist. I’m not a racist. Sarah Palin’s not a racist. Kid Rock’s not a racist,” the singer told the Detroit Free Press when the interviewer mentioned criticism of his relationship with the President.
He went on to say, “If you’re going to criticize me, you’ve got to be honest. Come up with something that’s true.”
“So when they level those kinds of accusations, I tell you: I’ve known Sarah Palin a long time. I know Bob. I know President Trump. It rolls off our backs, but we are hurt that such dishonesty exists. If you want to have a debate, we’ve got to be honest,” Nugent added.
In April 2017, Nugent, Kid Rock, and Sarah Palin visited the White House, per NPR. They gathered in the Oval Office for a quick photo shoot and dinner. All three were early supporters of Trump and attended rallies before his election.
Though the White House didn’t release visitor logs, Palin shared photos on social media. Palin wrote on social media, “A great night at the White House. Thank you to President Trump for the invite!”
The group also posed under Hillary Clinton’s portrait, which seemed like a jab at her. Nugent’s wife, Shemane, and Kid Rock’s then-fiancée, Audrey, were there too.
