Sum 41 canceled the Australian tour due to Deryck Whibley’s illness.

News.com.au reported on December 5 that the band announced it on a Facebook post, which has now been deleted. They wrote, “It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce our 2024 Australian tour is unable to proceed. We were beyond excited to deliver this tour from December 4 – December 12, and connect with our Aussie fans once more.”

The group continued, “Now that we’re here though, and under the guidance and direction of multiple Australian doctors, it’s clear that Deryck is too unwell to perform. We understand and appreciate your disappointment – we’re gutted too.”

“The good news is Good Things Festival is still going ahead in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane this weekend with an incredible line-up of local and international acts. We can’t be there, but get along for us and have the best time,” the statement added.

Sum 41 plans to disband after their current Setting Sum tour, which ends on January 30, 2025. The Australian dates were supposed to be their last shows of the year.

The tour was meant to support Sum 41’s final album, ‘Heaven :x: Hell,’ released in March. Fans were excited for the band’s farewell shows. This is the second time Australian fans missed seeing them due to Whibley’s health. In 2011, they canceled their Soundwave Festival appearance because Whibley was hospitalized with pneumonia.

Sum 41 was set to co-headline the Good Things Festival with Korn in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney this weekend. The festival shared the news on social media. They said, “Sum 41 are gutted they can’t perform, and we fully understand and appreciate fans’ disappointment. Deryck’s health and wellbeing is the focus and priority though, and we hope you will join us in sending him well wishes for his recovery.”

The festival will still feature Korn, Violent Femmes, Mastodon, Billy Corgan, Jet, and Slayer’s Kerry King, among others, starting on December 6 in Melbourne.
