Stryper frontman Michael Sweet has shared his reaction to Kid Rock’s newly announced Christian rock album, “Halfway To Jesus,” in a statement posted on Instagram.
“Whatever you may think about Kid Rock, I’m very happy to see this. I’m seeing more and more celebrities take a stand for Christ,” Sweet said.
He went on to cite another recent example of a musician speaking about his beliefs.
“I was overjoyed to hear Billy Corgan say that Jesus is his lord and savior during our interview. Proclaiming Jesus may not be popular, but it’s the most important message any artist can deliver,” he continued.
Sweet closed his remarks with a Bible verse.
“James 1:17: ‘Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.'”
Kid Rock’s album, “Halfway To Jesus,” is set for release on October 17. It is his first new album since 2022’s “Bad Reputation.” The 17-track record is also his first faith-based release, and it arrives through his Top Dog Records label.
Eminem appears on the track “7 Sins.” Country singers Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts and Jimmie Allen are featured on the title track, “Halfway 2 Jesus.” Other song titles include “Freedom,” “Water Into Wine,” “Me and Jesus” and “God Is Good.”
Kid Rock has already released the album’s first single, “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King).” The song takes its name from the same Bible verse Sweet quoted in his statement. The release date, October 17, is also Eminem’s 54th birthday.
Sweet’s comments come as the project draws attention for both its message and its guest list.
The Eminem collaboration has drawn a mixed response online. Some of the rapper’s fans have criticized his involvement in the project, and a few have threatened to boycott.
Sweet’s mention of Billy Corgan refers to the Smashing Pumpkins frontman’s recent remarks on his podcast, “The Magnificent Others.” Corgan said he is a Christian. He also said that others in the music industry are afraid to talk about God.
