Sting Shares The Worst Type Of Love Songs In The Rock Industry
Sting recently shared a video on his official Instagram account in which he revealed the best and worst recipe for writing a love song. Apparently, focusing on a platonic love affair is the best way to write a romantic track, whereas writing about a mutual love is dull and flat.
For those of you who may not know, Sting is set to release a brand new album named ‘The Bridge‘ on November 19, 2021, as a follow-up to his fourteenth studio album, ‘My Songs,’ released in May 2019. The new record was announced over a week ago, and the musician revealed that the new set of pop-rock songs are based on the consequences of a year of the global pandemic, such as personal loss, separation, and isolation.
The debut single from the album, ‘If It’s Love,‘ was released on 1 September 2021, and many fans left comments under the track, stating that it sounds just like his classic songs. His fans expect nothing less from the musician as he is the king of romantic lyrics and melodies.
Recently, Sting shared a video on his official Instagram account in which he opened up about his approach to writing love songs. Apparently, the worst way of creating a romantic song is to base the lyrics on a mutual love relationship since it limits the songwriter’s wish to play with the concept.
According to Sting, platonic love affairs and impossible romantic relationships allow songwriters to create more interesting tracks. A good example is his new song, ‘If It’s Love,’ in which Sting sings for the desperation of one-sided love, as the agony of love reflects the most emotional and touching love songs.
“I think the idea of ‘I love you, but you love someone else‘ makes for the best love songs.
Have you listened to ‘If It’s Love’ yet? Let me know in the comments.”
In the video, Sting said:
“I think the worst love songs are, ‘I love you, and you love me.’ It’s a circle. You can’t get in. Whereas ‘I love you, but you love someone else’ is an interesting perspective for a writer.”
