Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon recently opened up about his bandmate Andy Taylor.
He talked about Taylor’s prostate cancer and making sure the band is doing its best to support him in his fight against the disease. “There is something between us that keeps us together,” the singer said. “First of all, we love the music we make together. Nobody else makes music like we do. We’ve all tried to do things on our own, and it just doesn’t seem as exciting as when the four of us get together and work.”
The rocker also shared the business deal that stopped them from fighting. “We make each other laugh, and I think that’s very important in a long relationship. When we are under stress, we laugh all the way through it, and it keeps everything light and fun. And the other thing is, we split all the proceeds equally. No one takes all the publishing. We all share the finances equally.”
In 2023, Taylor denied rumors of bad blood with his former bandmates, pointing to a heartfelt letter read by Le Bon during the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2022. Taylor didn’t attend due to health issues.
In the same interview, Taylor said of rejoining the band, “No, I’m not going to rejoin the band … I would not say no to [part-time for] the opportunity, particularly for the fans, but as I keep reminding people, you have to be asked.”
For his prostate cancer, Taylor underwent a therapy involving radioactive chemicals targeting cancer cells, resulting in him being declared ‘asymptomatic.’ Taylor also revealed two symptoms that signaled something was wrong: bone pain while jogging, which he mistook for arthritis from years of performing, and erectile dysfunction, which he masked with Viagra.
