In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Shakira, and DJ Bizarrap shared the behind-the-scenes of their collaboration on the track ‘Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.’ Shakira also pointed out that she felt that the beat had a Depeche Mode vibe that she really enjoyed.

The Argentinian producer and DJ Bizarrap shared that he had two different beats to choose from for Shakira once they got to the studio, and the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer immediately gravitated to the beat they ended up using for the track.

Shakira explained that the beat had a cool and dark undertone that reminded her of Depeche Mode, which she emphasized was her favorite, so she was more inclined to work on that beat. The beat had her moving and having a physical reaction which was a sign that it was the right move.

Shakira’s words about the track that reminded her of Depeche Mode read:

It reminded me of Depeche Mode. If you listen to [‘Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53’], it’s got a little bit of that cool, dark undertone. I love Depeche Mode. They’re my favorite.”

“I usually have this physical, visceral reaction to music. If you see me two-stepping, things aren’t right. I know when a song works because I suddenly start moving. It usually results in my hips moving.”

The track that Depeche Mode influenced became a massive hit, and it has even broken four Guinness World Records amongst being the most streamed Latin track on Spotify in 24 hours as well as the most viewed Latin music video on Youtube in 24 hours. The hips didn’t lie, and the collaboration became the number one song globally to add to the growing hits list of Shakira.
