In a new interview with KLPX, Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach recalled rock and roll being fun in earlier years and recalled laughing at David Lee Roth forgetting the words during a Van Halen show.

The rocker complained about rock and roll being no more fun due to one certain reason. He revealed:

“I really feel like there is a lack of fun in rock and roll these days. I feel like the internet makes people argue against each other. When you worked at KUPD and I was in Madam X in ’87, rock and roll was nothing but fun.”

He then recalled the moment he went to see Van Halen, where David Lee Roth forgot the lyrics for a song:

“We used to go see Van Halen and Dave would come out and go ‘I can’t! I forgot the f*cking words!’ We would look at each other, laugh and go ‘He forgot the words!’ and he thought that was the greatest thing. Rock and roll was so much fun and I just wanna put fun back in rock. When I watch my new video, all I have is a smile on my face. Like I have a smile and I just enjoy it, and the whole album is along those lines.”

Bach Almost Joined Van Halen

Hagar’s history with the band had many ups and downs. In 1985, Roth departed from the band to pursue a solo career, and his role was filled by Hagar. He later parted ways in 1996 before the release of their initial greatest hits compilation, ‘Best Of – Volume I.’ Gary Cherone, former frontman of Extreme, took over from Hagar and collaborated on ‘Van Halen III’ before parting ways a year later.

During these times, there had been talks as to whether or not to get Bach as the lead singer, as he verified in an earlier interview. He revealed:

“I was summoned into Doc’s office, and there was talk about it. At the time, they were looking for a singer. But I didn’t get to audition. I don’t think Doc was into me leaving Skid Row either; there was something about that.”

Skid Row Once Opened For VH

Looking back on the earlier days of the band, it appears that Bach could not believe his band was hanging out with Eddie Van Halen despite being on tour together. In fact, the frontman thinks Eddie Van Halen is like his family:

“Skid Row opened the whole USA ‘Balance’ tour, the first leg, and I got to know Eddie, I got to know Alex. And the first day of the tour, Edward came to our dressing room – we couldn’t believe it – and he was playing guitar the whole time. He’s just hanging out…”

The two would have been great friends today.
