Sammy Hagar Says John Bonham Would Be Proud Of Jason Bonham Today

Former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar recently gave an interview to KUSI’s Paul Rudy and talked about Jason Bonham, who is playing in his band. Hagar said that his father, John Bonham, would definitely be proud of him if he had a chance to see Jason playing drums.

Led Zeppelin’s legendary drummer John Bonham is considered among the most influential drummers of all time. Although he died at the early age of 32, he managed to leave an unforgettable imprint in the history of rock music with his exceptional drumming style. His incredible playing indeed had a significant effect on Led Zeppelin’s music.

John Bonham’s son, Jason Bonham, also followed his father’s steps and has become a drummer. Since his father’s death, Jason has performed with Led Zeppelin on several occasions. Jason Bonham played with many different bands throughout his music career, and in 2014, he joined Sammy Hagar’s band named Sammy Hagar and the Circle. Alongside Led Zeppelin songs, the band also plays the tracks from Hagar’s work with his previous bands like Van Halen and Montrose.

During the conversation, the interviewer asked Sammy Hagar whether John Bonham would be proud of his son if he could hear him playing drums. Then, Hagar revealed that he says this to Jason Bonham every night after they perform. The Red Rocker explained that if John heard Jason playing the intro of Led Zeppelin classic ‘Rock and Roll,’ he would definitely give Jason a high five. Hagar said that Jason has been playing drums since he was four and he is as good as his father.

Here are Sammy Hagar’s thoughts on Jason Bonham:

“I say it every night to Jason, I would say ‘Boy, after that drum solo tonight or after the way you played the intro to Led Zeppelin’s ‘Rock and Roll,’ your dad would be giving you five.’ His dad died young, and he is playing like 20 years longer than his father

Can you believe that? I mean that alone says how good he is because when he was four years old, he was sitting at drums, got pictures and videos of his dad filming while he was playing to Dr. John music.”
