Sammy Hagar Reveals Alex Van Halen’s Been Ignoring Him

Ahead of his upcoming tour with The Circle, Sammy Hagar sat down for an interview with The Bob Lefsetz Podcast and discussed his current relationships with the remaining members of Van Halen. The singer claimed that Alex Van Halen has not been in touch with him since the passing of Eddie Van Halen.

First, talking about playing his former band’s music, he said:

“I’m really interested in, really digging deep into Van Halen. See, I’ve shied away from doing that because of – You know, the friction between us. You know, there was Van Halen, but now that Eddie’s gone…”

The Red Rocker went on to explain what held a possible reunion back and added:

“I’ve hit Al a hundred times. ‘Al, call me. Let’s get together. Let’s make some music. You know what I mean? It’s not about trying to be Van Halen. It’s about serving the fans. Let’s play that music together, for God’s sake. How could you not when the lead singer’s still alive? You got two of them still alive. One is less user-friendly, but Mikey and Al and myself – Let’s just go play music.’ He just won’t respond. Since Eddie’s death, he’s been really shut down with me anyway. I’m gonna go out and play that f**king music.”

Last year, during an interview with Eddie Trunk, Hagar pointed to Alex as one of the figures keeping a Van Halen tribute show from happening. Reflecting on their lack of contact, he claimed:

“Like I said, if Alex came to me and wanted to do it, I’m in. Absolutely — let’s go and do it somehow. But Alex has got a stick up his a** about something with me still, and he’s going to take it to his grave, I guess. I made peace with Eddie before he died, but I don’t think I made peace with Al. And I don’t think I’m going to unless he reaches back out to me. I’ve done it about five times now.”
