Rose Tattoo has confirmed the death of frontman Gary “Angry” Anderson, who passed away on September 21, 2026, at the age of 79. The news was shared in a statement posted on Facebook, just weeks after the band had canceled its summer 2026 European tour due to Anderson’s ongoing health struggles.
The statement addressed the circumstances of his passing and asked for privacy for the family and band during this time.
“It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gary ‘Angry’ Anderson on the eve of Monday 21 September 2026, surrounded by his loved ones here in Australia,” Rose Tattoo’s announcement said. “Angry was a devoted father, and much-loved member of his friends, bandmates and the wider music and entertainment community. His loss will be deeply felt by all those who knew and loved him both here in Australia and overseas.”
The band went on to request that the family’s wishes for privacy be honored while they grieve.
“The family and band members are asking for privacy at this difficult time and will not be giving interviews,” the statement continued. “We kindly ask that their wishes are respected as they come to terms with this devastating loss and take time they need to grieve.”
The statement closed with a message of gratitude to fans and supporters.

Anderson suffered a cardiac arrest and was hospitalized in late August 2026. Rose Tattoo confirmed at the time that he was receiving treatment and care while doctors monitored his condition.
The cardiac arrest forced Rose Tattoo to cut short its “One Last Ride” European tour, canceling the remaining nine shows still scheduled on the itinerary. The band arranged for ticket refunds through the original point of sale.
Anderson had long been regarded as the band’s defining figure and its last surviving member from Rose Tattoo’s classic lineup. His decades fronting the group cemented his status as one of Australian hard rock’s most recognizable voices.
