Roger Waters And David Gilmour Come Together For A Syd Barrett Project

A new documentary named ‘Have You Got It Yet? The Story of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd’ will center around Pink Floyd’s co-founder Syd Barrett, also featuring interviews with Roger Waters and David Gilmour.

As it is well-known, Syd Barrett fronted Pink Floyd in the mid-1960s and was praised for his creative genius, intriguing lyrics, and experimental guitar-playing style. However, his heavy involvement in psychedelic drugs such as LSD caused him to behave increasingly erratically over time, eventually ending his musical career with Pink Floyd.

Have You Got It Yet?‘ which is named after an unreleased song Barrett brought to his last practice session with Pink Floyd, will focus on the early days of the band, as well as Barrett’s turbulent life. Deadline reported that the film was produced in Mercury Studios and co-directed by Roddy Bogawa and Pink Floyd’s late graphic designer Storm Thorgerson, who knew Syd in the 1960s.

The producers secured the rights to nearly 50 songs from Pink Floyd and Barrett’s solo discography to be used in the soundtrack. The movie will also feature new interviews with the late singer’s surviving bandmates, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, and Nick Mason. So, Waters and Gilmour, who have been at odds for years, will come together to honor Pink Floyd’s original frontman.

Mercury Studios CEO Alice Webb told Deadline in a statement that Syd Barrett was not just the co-founder of Pink Floyd. Besides his progressive work with the band, the late musician was also a cultural icon and a musical genius. According to Webb, his creative power ‘lived on in the music’ created after him.

Here is what Alice Webb said about Syd Barrett:

“Syd Barrett was more than just the co-founder of Pink Floyd. He was the creative fuel, who became a pop culture icon, and left everyone wondering where he went as his presence lived on in the music that came after.”

Aside from Gilmour, Waters, and Mason, the film will also include interviews with Barrett’s sister Rosemary Breen, the Who’s Pete Townshend, Blur’s Graham Coxon, and Pink Floyd managers Peter Jenner and Andrew King. The release date of ‘Have You Got It Yet?’ is not known yet.
