Rock Musicians Decide To Leave Twitter After Elon Musk’s Donald Trump Move

Elon Musk promised to make Twitter great again after taking over the platform. The first thing he did was firing %50 staff, and now he restored Donald Trump’s account to make Twitter a free speech haven. However, many rock artists decided to delete their Twitter accounts after Musk’s recent move.

Giving Donald Trump his account back was the final straw for many, including rockers like Trent Reznor and Jack White. The Nine Inch Nails frontman had 1.6 million followers on Twitter, but he decided to delete his account without hesitation. On the other hand, Jack White decided to deactivate his label, Third Man Records, account from the platform.

“I’m about to depart,” Reznor had said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. “We don’t need the arrogance of the billionaire class to feel like they can just come in and solve everything. Even without him involved, I find that it has become such a toxic environment. For my mental health, I need to tune out. I don’t feel good being there anymore.”

“Shame on you for giving Trump and other professional liars the platform you are now in control of, and shame on anyone who does,” Jack White exclaimed most recently in a lengthy statement he posted on Instagram. “And shame on you if you think it’s no big deal. It is. Thankfully, I’ve never had a personal Twitter account (it’s mostly a sea of negativity if you ask me). Still, I will now be deactivating my record label Third Man Records account from Twitter.”

He continued, “It’s a shame that our label’s artists will lose a social media outlet to promote their art, and I apologize to our artists for having to do this, but we are not going to even tangentially support you or this platform that will help conspiracy spreading liars, and out of touch narci-capitalists tear this country apart, all for Trump’s ego and your tax break agenda. (We’ll also be taking a look at other platforms and decide about them accordingly, but this first. It’s not easy when wanting the best for other artists).”

During his presidency, Donald Trump was accused of using Twitter to spread misinformation about alleged election fraud. After the US Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, the platform banned Trump for inciting violence. Now, Musk’s decision to bring the former president back has caused him to lose numerous Twitter users, including rock icons like White and Reznor.
