Smith reflected on The Cure’s busy 2026 schedule and looked ahead to the next year. The band’s summer plans this year include appearances at Primavera Sound Barcelona in June and Rock en Seine in Paris in August, plus 29 other shows across the season.

“This is Robert from The Cure,” Smith told BBC Radio 6 Music. “Very excited that we’ve made the six music artist of the year short list. Excellent. Thank you. I’m adding it to my personal musical highlights list of 2026 so far, which currently includes curating the week of Teenage Cancer Trust shows at the Royal Albert Hall in March. The Cure’s first show of the summer, Primavera Sound Barcelona, of course, at the start of June. My duet with Olivia Rodrigo for the live world premiere of a fabulous song, ‘What’s Wrong With Me?’ That same weekend, the Cure’s last show of the summer at the Rock en Seine Festival in Paris at the end of August, and pretty much every one of the 29 Cure shows that happened in between.”

Smith then turned his attention to what lies ahead. “I’m looking forward to more Cure concerts in 2027,” he continued. “Of course, I’m not allowed to say where or when yet, but I’m confident they’ll be bursting with new songs.”

The comments come as The Cure maintain a heavy touring schedule through 2026.

The Cure released their fourteenth studio album, Songs of a Lost World, in November 2024, their first new material in 16 years. In March 2025, the band returned to Rockfield Studios to record more songs for a follow-up album. Smith said in an interview with BBC Radio 6 Music in June that The Cure recorded “three albums’ worth of songs” during that studio session, with the second album completed and ready to be delivered to Universal.

Smith’s 2026 also included curating a week of Teenage Cancer Trust concerts at the Royal Albert Hall between March 23 and 29. The lineup featured artists such as my bloody valentine, Garbage, Manic Street Preachers and Wolf Alice. One of the shows marked the 150th Teenage Cancer Trust concert at the venue.

Smith and Olivia Rodrigo performed their duet “What’s Wrong With Me” at Primavera Sound 2026 in Barcelona on June 6. The track appears on Rodrigo’s album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. This was not the first time the two artists worked together; Rodrigo previously performed with Smith at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival.
