Rob Halford Recalls His Prediction About Iron Maiden
Judas Priest’s Rob Halford recently joined Metal Pilgrim for an interview and revealed what he foresaw about Iron Maiden‘s future.
On July 17, 1982, Judas Priest released their eighth studio album ‘Screaming For Vengeance.’ This album featured the hit single ‘You’ve Got Another Thing Comin” which ended up being a huge radio hit in the US. Moreover, their popular live songs ‘Electric Eye’ and ‘Riding On The Wind’ also appeared on this album.
Apart from these three, ‘(Take These) Chains’ was released as a single and received heavy airplay after the release. However, ‘You’ve Got Another Thing Comin” was the most successful one, becoming one of Judas Priest’s signature songs. So, the album was a commercial success and went double platinum.
Considering the success it brought to the Priest, ‘Screaming For Vengeance’ was a breakthrough album for the band. In support of the album, the Priest embarked on the World Vengeance Tour in 1982 and toured throughout North America between August 26, 1982, and February 21, 1983. From September 14 to 29, Iron Maiden supported the band.
Speaking to Metal Pilgrim, Rob Halford recalled the time they toured with Maiden and reflected on his thoughts on the band. He said that he watched Maiden in the past and thought they would be a massive band because of their songs and energy on stage. Halford then added working with Maiden was remarkable for that reason.
During the conversation, Rob Halford said the following:
“I used to watch Maiden most nights and look and go, ‘Man, these guys are gonna be huge.’ The songs, the energy on stage, and everything about them just screamed that they would be a massive band. So, for us to be working together for some of those dates was remarkable if you had a chance to see it.”
