Former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora addressed his ongoing hand injury and thanked his fans for their continued support in a new video shared on X.
Sambora reflected on the success of his song “Church of Desire,” which surpassed a million streams on Spotify. He also revealed that his hand injury has been more serious than he had previously let on.
“Hey, everybody. What’s going on? We did it, man. Church of Desire, over a million hits on Spotify. I just love you guys. Thank you so much for your support. And just keep playing, rock and roll, baby,” Sambora said. “You know, things are coming up. The momentum’s grooving, and had a wonderful time with the Kings of Chaos and Heartland, and, you know, my hand’s still not all the way there. It’s worse than I told everybody, and I didn’t really say anything about it, but it was pretty complicated. My hand is pretty complicated.”
Sambora went on to express his gratitude toward his fanbase and reflect on the response to his music.
“So, anyway, but Church of Desire, we were on it. Thank you so much. It makes me so happy. Like I said, I love you guys. I love my fans, and I think that’s why you do it, right? It’s the communication,” he continued. “I’m glad that you think my music is, like, almost timeless because that was a long time ago that that song was written, and you guys got the whole Stranger in This Town, my first solo album. Every song is over a million views on Spotify. So, my heart is warm by you guys, and I promise I’m gonna come see you and play my ass off, sing my ass off too. So, peace and love. I love yous, and thank you for Church of Desire.”
Sambora’s candid admission comes after months of speculation surrounding the true extent of his injury. It fills in a picture that had previously been pieced together through scattered updates on social media.
The injury first came to light in July 2025, when Sambora’s condition was described as “gruesome.” It prompted him to bring in NFL rehabilitation specialists to help him regain the strength and dexterity needed to play guitar again. The severity of the setback pushed him toward a recovery process typically reserved for professional athletes, underscoring just how serious the damage to his hand truly was.
The injury was traced back to an April 2025 touch football game, which required emergency surgery. In the months that followed, Sambora shared glimpses of his recovery online, including footage of rehabilitation exercises he described as part of his daily routine.
Despite the ongoing challenges, Sambora’s recovery has been progressing faster than expected. “His healing rate is double what is expected for such an injury,” an unnamed source close to the situation revealed late last year, offering a rare note of optimism amid the setbacks.
The injury has also played into a larger narrative surrounding Sambora’s career trajectory. He will not be joining Bon Jovi for the band’s 2026 Forever Tour, a decision that has fueled ongoing speculation about tension between him and frontman Jon Bon Jovi. Against that backdrop, Sambora’s latest message to fans reads as both an update on his health and a reaffirmation of his commitment to his solo music.
