Jane Asher, Paul McCartney’s former fiancée, has revealed she has no intention of watching Lucy Boynton’s portrayal of her in Sam Mendes’s upcoming four-part Beatles biopic.
Asher explained that she has long avoided public discussion of her past relationship with McCartney. She does not plan to make an exception for the new films.
“The filmmakers approached me about it, of course, but I said my usual. I decided years ago, [I would no longer answer questions about my engagement to him],” Asher said.
She went on to describe how persistent interest in her past relationship has been over the years.
“People would offer me money to talk about it, all sorts of things. But I won’t discuss it. It was so long ago,” Asher continued.
Asher also offered a brief comment on Boynton, the actress cast to portray her. She reaffirmed her decision to stay away from the films altogether.
“Well, of course, Lucy is beautiful. But I won’t watch the films, otherwise everyone will ask me what I thought,” Asher said.
Sam Mendes’s four Beatles films continue to take shape as production moves forward across multiple locations.
The four-film project carries the working title “The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event.” Each installment focuses on one member of the band. Paul Mescal takes on the role of Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson plays John Lennon, Joseph Quinn portrays George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan steps into the role of Ringo Starr. All four films are scheduled for a simultaneous theatrical release in April 2028.
The supporting cast rounds out the story of the band’s inner circle. Boynton plays Jane Asher, Saoirse Ronan takes on the role of Linda McCartney, and Aimee Lou Wood portrays Pattie Boyd. Ronan’s casting reunites her with Mescal, who previously starred alongside her in “Foe.”
Filming has taken the production to several key locations tied to the band’s history, including Liverpool, London, Barcelona, and Salou. Cast members have been spotted recreating iconic moments from Beatles history, including the famous Abbey Road album cover walk. These sightings have given fans an early glimpse of the transformations undergone by the four lead actors.
Ronan recently spoke about working alongside Mescal on the project. She said playing his wife in the biopic was “easy” because the two “love each other’s partners” in real life, a comment that reflects the close-knit atmosphere surrounding the production.
