Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has shared his pick of 2024’s best song, but it’s not anything you would hear to expect.

The rocker was asked by ALT 98.7 about his song of the year. “I’m going to have to go with ‘Espresso,'” the rocker said, mentioning Sabrina Carpenter’s hit song. “Wow, okay, unexpected,” the interviewer reacted to Reznor’s pick.

Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time the singer has picked a pop singer over any other rock musician or song. In 2023, Reznor admitted that he teared up to one of Dua Lipa’s songs. “To me, the hardest thing is the songwriting. Having something to say, something to say with truth, that has reason to exist rather than just a thing,” he explained.

“I heard my daughter, who’s six, singing Dua Lipa the other day,” he recounted. “She is so into it and it is so cool. Like this is her music, you know, this is her thing… It really reminded me of the art of writing a well-crafted song — I teared up listening to a Dua Lipa track. Because it was just a really well-done piece of music, you know? It was clever. It felt good,” the frontman added.

In other news, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have been busy working on film scores but have also mentioned plans for a new Nine Inch Nails album. Fans are hoping it will come out soon.
