Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx has cast doubt on his long-term future with the band. He shared a vague statement about touring and new music during a Q&A session on Facebook.

During the Q&A, a fan asked Sixx directly about the band’s plans to continue touring with guitarist John 5 and the possibility of releasing new music together.

The fan’s question read: “Are you guys going to continue to tour with the new Motley meaning John 5? I hope so. I’m a big fan since 1987. New music with your songwriting and John’s contribution, it would be awesome.”

In response, Sixx offered a measured but uncertain reply, hinting that his commitment to the band is not unconditional.

“Taking it day by day. We will as long as we love it,” Sixx said. “But Motley doesn’t define me. I love it but I do so many other creative projects that don’t involve leaving my family behind.”

Sixx’s comments reflect a broader picture of a band navigating a significant lineup change while its founding members weigh personal priorities against the demands of life on the road.

John 5 joined Mötley Crüe in the fall of 2022 after co-founding guitarist Mick Mars was forced to retire from touring due to health issues. Blabbermouth reported that Mars was “very supportive” of the transition and was described as “really happy” that John 5 was there to step in.

Louder Sound confirmed that John 5 was officially named Mars’ replacement following weeks of speculation after the founding guitarist was forced to step away from performing. The transition marked a new chapter for the band, which had already reunited its classic lineup for a high-profile stadium run before Mars’ retirement.

On the touring front, WMMR noted that Mötley Crüe recently wrapped up a Las Vegas residency. John 5 indicated the band would continue activity following its conclusion. He had also been balancing his solo instrumental touring commitments alongside his duties with Crüe.

Beyond Mötley Crüe, Sixx has remained active through various creative outlets, including radio hosting and media projects. These endeavors appear to factor heavily into his thinking about the band’s future. His remark that “Motley doesn’t define me” suggests that, for Sixx, the band is one part of a larger creative identity rather than its entirety.

No further announcements regarding new music or upcoming tours have been made at this time.
