Neal Schon recently posted a photo with Steve Perry on X and captioned it with a winking face emoji, exciting fans over a possible reunion. Users discussed what the post could mean in the comments section.

One tweet read, ‘‘Don’t you dare be teasing!!’ while a fan wrote, ‘‘Omg! What??? Could something really be happening here? That would be phenomenal! (and maybe a future NS/SP collab of some kind as a bonus for all of us ‘Patient’ fans! How cool would that be?)’’

Another person went, ‘‘Throw him a bone, Neal. Do something before you’re both dead. Anything. You guys created some of the best music of the 20th century.’’

Steve Perry left Journey in 1998, two years after his diagnosis with a degenerative bone condition interrupted the band’s tour plans for their ‘Trial by Fire’ album. Rumors later said Schon played a role in Perry’s departure, but the guitarist dismissed them in previous interviews.

‘‘Steve Perry was an amazing singer, and I hope to hear from him again,’’ he said in a 2003 chat. ‘I hope that he puts out a solo record because I know a lot of people miss his vocals, and everybody blames me for him not being in this band, but I just got to laugh at it because it really wasn’t my decision for him not to be in this band.’’

Perry reunited with Journey for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2017 though he didn’t perform with them. His last full concert with the band came in early 1987.

The vocalist rejoined Journey briefly in 1991 for a show in memory of concert promoter Bill Graham and appeared again in 2005 when they received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Arnel Pineda has been the lead singer of Journey since 2007.

Earlier this year, Jonathan Cain filed a lawsuit against Neal Schon accusing him of spending too much of Journey’s money. Schon responded to Cain’s accusations calling them ‘slanderous.’
