Neal Schon recently addressed fan concerns about Arnel Pineda’s potential absence from Journey’s upcoming tour. He responded to speculation in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).

The guitarist’s response came after a Journey fan directly questioned him about the situation. A fan asked about Pineda’s status as frontman for the beginning of the tour, wondering whether performances would feature all Deen Castronovo vocals, a guest frontman, or a surprise.

“I’ve not heard anything about this,” Schon said. “There’s so much misleading BS out there right now.”

When the fan commented about slanderous statements being made, Schon pointed to a specific source for the misinformation.

“It’s the ex managers,” he said.

The speculation surrounding Pineda’s involvement has intensified following recent events and cryptic social media activity that has left fans questioning the band’s lineup for their highly anticipated farewell tour.

The concerns arose after Pineda commented on Journey drummer Deen Castronovo’s Instagram post with “Congratulations and have fun on your 2026 Farewell Tour.” He notably used “your” instead of “our” to describe the upcoming tour. Alternative Nation reported that this phrasing has led fans to believe he might not join the band’s farewell tour, which kicks off February 28 in Hershey, PA.

Adding to the uncertainty, Pineda was notably absent from Journey’s recent halftime performance at a 49ers game due to what was described as a scheduling conflict. During that performance, Castronovo stepped up to handle lead vocals, demonstrating the band’s ability to adapt when needed. YouTube coverage indicated that Pineda also missed a guest spot on The Voice two weeks earlier, along with keyboardist Jonathan Cain.

However, Schon had previously clarified that these absences were not signs of Pineda’s departure from the band. The guitarist has consistently maintained that the missing performances were due to logistical issues rather than any internal conflicts or decisions about the singer’s future with Journey.

The timing of these rumors is particularly significant as Journey prepares for what they’ve announced as their farewell tour. Alternative Nation noted that while the tour was widely expected to feature the band’s current lineup, the new speculation has created uncertainty about whether longtime lead singer Pineda will participate in what could be the band’s final major touring cycle.
