Mötley Crüe dropped a self-titled new track from their latest EP, ‘Cancelled,’ yesterday (October 4). They announced its arrival on Instagram while Nikki Sixx took to X to ask fans, “Digging the new track?”
Listeners generally gave positive feedback to the single. Many seemed to prefer ‘Cancelled’ over ‘Dogs of War,’ which came out in April.
“So much better than ‘Dogs of War,’” one person directly wrote in the YouTube comments. “Vince [Neil] sounds great, John 5 sounds like he’s fitting in the mix, Tommy and Nikki keepin’ the groove tight … Well Done!”
‘Dogs of War’ marked the band’s first release featuring guitarist John 5, after the departure of Mick Mars in 2022. Although the band initially presented it as a new chapter for their music, the song didn’t sit well with many fans.
So, another person commented, “Great song!! About time!! Now this song is better than the 1st 2 songs they released before.”
“This is the best thing I’ve heard from The Crüe since ‘New Tattoo,’” someone else added. “I think they need to focus more on studio material and ease off the tour a bit, Vince actually sounds on point here.”
Mötley Crüe also recorded a cover of Beastie Boys’ ‘Fight for Your Right’ along with their two new singles for the EP. Though fans expected these tracks to be part of a full album, the band ruled out that possibility earlier this year.
