Chris Motionless from Motionless In White discussed the band’s early financial challenges in a recent interview with Primordial Radio.

“I would say probably the most obvious one to me is just the financial aspect of being in a touring band,” Motionless said about the biggest challenge they had to overcome. “Thankfully, we started touring when things were cheaper. Putting 10 of your friends in a 12-passenger van and touring in the winter with zero money making nothing. You’re stealing everything off from Walmart to eat.”

“Those challenges of basically going out there with money that you worked your real job for and now you’re out for 2 weeks or 3 weeks or however long,” he continued. “You’re sleeping on top of each other in a freezing cold van.”

“All those like early stories that bands have to well at least used to have to experience. I’m sure there’s plenty that are that are now, but I don’t know if that’s really how it is anymore because it’s just too expensive to do that,” he explained. “But those challenges I think were the hardest to get through. Because how long can you really sustain a career by doing that?”

“We got lucky and that we grinded and grinded and finally ended up in the right place at the right time and then we seized that opportunity. Those are like the greatest life lessons I’ve ever learned. And those are the coolest memories I have in my head,” he added.

The band’s persistence through these early hardships paved the way for their significant achievements.

The Metal Verse documented the band’s breakthrough in 2010. Their debut album ‘Creatures’ earned them their first Billboard Top 200 appearance and established them as a rising force in the metalcore scene.

The band’s lineup has evolved significantly over the years. Kiddle noted that Chris ‘Motionless’ Cerulli remained the constant creative force. The current lineup features Cerulli, Ryan Sitkowski, Ricky ‘Horror’ Olson, Vinny Mauro, and Justin Morrow. Together, they create their distinctive blend of metalcore, gothic, and industrial influences.

Last.fm highlighted how the band’s unique musical approach and dedication helped them overcome their initial financial struggles. This commitment elevated them to their current status as a prominent name in modern metal.

Their journey from humble beginnings to success illustrates the music industry’s evolution. Touring costs have risen dramatically since Motionless In White’s early days.
