Mike Portnoy Picks Roger Waters As The Mastermind Of Pink Floyd After Watching His New Concert Movie
Former Dream Theater drummer, Mike Portnoy, recently posted a series of photos on his Instagram account and celebrated the musical genius of Roger Waters, called him one of his biggest musical heroes, and insinuated that for him he is the clear mastermind behind Pink Floyd’s success.
Mike Portnoy is without a doubt one of the most famous and active rockstars of all time, and he started climbing the ladder of international fame as the drummer of Dream Theater. However, he’s also known for his numerous side projects such as The Liquid Tension Experiment, Transatlantic, Metal Allegiance, and many more.
Besides an active musician, Mike Portnoy is also a huge fan of rock and metal music, and he often uses his social media to share his views on rock music and musicians. As you may know, Portnoy is a huge Pink Floyd fan and although he’s used his Twitter and Instagram to show his love of the iconic band numerous times before, he’d never revealed his thoughts on the mastermind discussion.
In his recent post, Mike shared his views on Roger Waters’ new ‘Us + Them’ concert movie and said that he was ‘blown away.’ He went on to describe Waters as the ‘Grand Architect of Conceptual Rock‘ and stated that he once again understood why Pink Floyd’s co-founder is one of his biggest musical heroes.
Portnoy praised Waters’ setlist and discussed how each detail during the performances was so well thought, such as ‘the harmonized duet vocals in The Great Gig in the Sky’ and ‘the unison guitar solo in Money.’ Then he went on to say that there’s no doubt for him who’s Pink Floyd’s… and that’s where he ended the sentence. However, it seems pretty clear to us that the rest of that sentence was ‘mastermind.’
Here’s what Mike Portnoy said in the caption of his recent post:
“Finally got around to watching the Roger Waters ‘Us + Them’ Blu-ray… and blown away as always. As far as I’m concerned, he is The Grand Architect of Conceptual Rock and always delivers the Absolute Ultimate live show and production… and what a setlist!
The Dogs & Pigs portion of the show was glorious…(can’t wait to finally get the Animals reissue this year) and so many great musical moments too… from the harmonized duet vocals in The Great Gig in the Sky to the unison guitar solo in Money…
For me, there’s no doubt which one’s Pink… and Roger Waters will always be one of my biggest musical heroes.”
