Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood opened up about the Peter Green Tribute which took place last year and included iconic musicians such as Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett, Oasis lead guitarist Noel Gallagher, and Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour who apparently took the longest time to make the decision to perform at the tribute concert.

As many of you know, Fleetwood Mac founder and iconic musician Peter Green had a great influence on the music industry and was a major figure among many guitar players as legendary guitarists such as Eric Clapton and B.B. King praised Green’s guitar playing several times, stating that he always played with emotion.

Iconic guitarist Peter Green, unfortunately, passed away at the age of 73 on July 25, 2020, in his sleep, according to a statement from his family’s solicitors, Swan Turton. The official statement did not include the cause of death or the location, however, fans were devastated after the heartbreaking news.

During a recent interview, Mick Fleetwood opened up about the time when he organized a tribute concert to Peter Green and the early years of Fleetwood Mac and revealed that it took a year and a half for David Gilmour to make up his mind for his performance at the tribute concert.

Here is what Fleetwood said:

“I didn’t know him very well but I knew he was connected to Peter Green’s music. … Two years before this even happened, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to cold-call him and say, ‘Would you do it?’ Because Gilmour had so much reverence for Peter Green’s playing and who Peter was and the songs, he initially got cold feet.”

Gilmour was like, ‘I don’t know if I can interpret Peter’s work. It’s so amazing. Maybe I can’t do that.’ I said, “What are you talking about? Of course, you can.’ He said, ‘At the moment I’m sort of passing on the idea. … But later on, if this happens, I may gather enough courage.’ And at least a year and a half later, I called him back, and he said, ‘I’m ready and I really want to do this.’ Which was huge.”
