Queensrÿche guitarist Michael Wilton has shared an update on the band’s upcoming follow-up to their 2022 album Digital Noise Alliance. He offered a candid look at where things stand in a recent conversation.

Wilton spoke about the progress of songwriting and recording sessions. Work is actively underway, but the timeline for the new record remains open-ended.

“In between our rigorous touring schedule, we’ve managed to get a lot of really great demos recorded,” Wilton said. “And at some point we’re gonna not tour as much and really concentrate on the album, and then we’ll see what happens.”

He acknowledged the uncertainty around when the project will be completed. Both a near-term and longer-term release remain possible.

“But it’s something that could happen really quick, or maybe it won’t happen till next year,” he continued. “So I don’t know. But the band will determine when it’s finished.”

Wilton also reflected on the band’s legacy and what it means to connect with fans through their music over the years.

“I’m proud of the path that we’ve gone down and how we’ve stayed true to our DNA,” he said. “And it’s amazing that the fans still wanna hear it, and I think that in itself is something you can look back at. You made a difference in someone’s life, whether it was personal or whether it was just music. People just dug your music. I love to play, but I love to see people absorb what I’m playing. So that’s so cool, man. That’s why I love doing this.”

The comments come as Queensrÿche continue to balance a demanding live schedule with the creative work of building their next studio record. That tension has defined much of the band’s recent years.

Digital Noise Alliance was released in October 2022. It debuted at No. 14 on the US Hard Rock Albums chart — the band’s highest chart position in over a decade. The record received positive critical reception and reaffirmed Queensrÿche’s standing in the progressive metal world.

The current lineup features Wilton alongside vocalist Todd La Torre, who has been the band’s frontman since 2013. La Torre’s arrival marked a significant turning point for the group. It helped stabilize and reinvigorate the band following a turbulent period in their history.

Queensrÿche maintained a heavy touring presence through 2024 and into 2025, with headline shows and festival appearances across North America and Europe. That relentless road schedule has kept the band visible and active. It is also precisely what Wilton points to as the main factor slowing the album’s progress.

No official release date for the new Queensrÿche album has been announced at this time.
