Metallica’s Kirk Hammett Releases His First-Ever Solo Single ‘High Plains Drifter’

Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett announced in his recent Instagram post that his new single ‘High Plains Drifter’ came out from the new album ‘Portals.’

Kirk Hammet has influenced many people with his unique style in his career with Metallica and Exodus. In February 2022, he excited the fans with the news of an upcoming album apart from his projects with other musicians or his band. He shared a post on his Instagram stating that the new EP ‘Portals’ will be released on April 23. Besides, this will be his first solo project, and he will also be the first Metallica member who creates a solo work.

As Hammett mentioned before in an interview with American Songwriter, ‘Portals’ has a musical and psychic aspect. The album was recorded in many different locations, including Los Angeles, Paris, and Oahu. Going from one place to another became an inspiration for Hammett by thinking about the metaphysical gateways at the same time. As he stated, he aimed to take the audience on a journey in their psyche with his music.

Kirk Hammett said in the interview:

“‘Portals’ is a collection of gateways to myriad musical and psychic destinations. Recorded in multiple locales ranging from Los Angeles to Paris to Oahu, Portals is both the result of musical and metaphysical journeys. An invitation to inner worlds accessible only by music and the psyche it fuels.”

In a recent Instagram post, Hammett announced that the new single entitled ‘High Plains Drifter‘ from the upcoming EP album ‘Portals’ was released. He directed the audience to his bio to listen to the new song. Kirk also added the audience could reach the full album on Record Store Day.

He wrote in the post:
