Heavy metal legends Metallica have made a generous charitable contribution ahead of their Cardiff concert. The American rockers donated £20,000 to Cardiff Foodbank through their charitable foundation, All Within My Hands. The donation provides an estimated 9,000 meals for people in need.

The donation was made ahead of Metallica’s gig at the Principality Stadium and came as a welcome surprise to the foodbank’s leadership. Cardiff Foodbank CEO Rachel Biggs spoke about the moment the charity received the news.

“We had an email saying ‘This isn’t a scam, please get in touch with the foundation,'” Biggs said. “They said ‘We are going to donate £20,000 to you.’ It’s an incredible amount of money which will make such a difference and replenish our empty shelves.”

Biggs also highlighted the broader impact of the gesture beyond the financial contribution itself.

“What’s great for us [is] it helps raise the profile,” she continued, “and what Metallica are doing is mobilising their fans, mobilising the local community.”

The donation was made through All Within My Hands as the band performed as part of their record-breaking M72 World Tour.

All Within My Hands was created by the members and management of Metallica. It is dedicated to building sustainable communities through three core pillars: workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services. The foundation operates with a commitment that 100% of all donations go directly to the organisations it supports, ensuring no funds are lost to administrative costs.

The foundation has previously channelled support to local non-profits tackling homelessness and food poverty, including partnerships with organisations such as Dublin Simon Community. This consistent focus on hunger relief and community resilience has made All Within My Hands a recognisable force for good in cities where Metallica performs.

On the education front, the foundation launched the Metallica Scholars Initiative in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges. It directed $100,000 grants to colleges across the United States to support career and technical education programmes for over 1,000 students. While workforce education remains a key strand of its mission, hunger relief has become an increasingly visible priority during the M72 World Tour.

The Cardiff Foodbank donation reflects a deliberate effort by the band to address immediate community needs in each city they visit. By targeting local charities with direct financial support, Metallica and All Within My Hands are turning their global touring platform into a vehicle for grassroots impact — one city at a time.
