In a recent interview with Loudwire, former Sepultura frontman Max Cavalera shared his thoughts on Sepultura’s farewell tour.
“I feel, and I’m not saying that just for myself, but I think a lot of fans feel that me and Igor kind of carry the spirit of Sepultura with us on everything that we do,” Cavalera said. “They still call it Sepultura, but everybody knows that’s not the same, and it’s never going to be the same. I don’t have nothing to do with what they’re doing with the disbanding of the band.”
“Me and Igor, we have our own path, we’re on our own thing,” he continued. “We’re revisiting those old material on our own time. The way we did them was the way we always did which was from our heart. For us, it’s really special to preserve that.”
“I think it’s kind of like that young heart. You’re the teenage heart that lives inside of you. I kind of like keep that really sacred,” Cavalera explained. “And no matter what happens in the business or the politics of music, I try not to let that affect my young mind and soul that I carry with me all the time.”
“So I feel like that when I talk about Sepultura, it was a special band of a special time, and we celebrate that. I get a chance to celebrate that with Igor, regardless of what the other guys are doing,” he concluded.
Sepultura has announced their farewell tour, now operating without the Cavalera brothers.
This milestone marks a crucial moment in Sepultura’s history as they prepare to conclude their 41-year journey in the metal scene.
In a statement to Blabbermouth, Max Cavalera expressed interest in reuniting the classic lineup. He emphasized that such a reunion would need proper execution.
The current Sepultura lineup features Derrick Green handling vocals, Andreas Kisser on guitar, and Paulo Jr. playing bass. Greyson Nekrutman has recently joined as their new drummer.
Max and Igor Cavalera continue to tour together. They perform the early Sepultura albums that established their legendary status in metal music.
The brothers maintain their musical partnership through various projects. Max focuses on his work with Soulfly while collaborating with Igor on special tours celebrating their Sepultura legacy.
