Former Iced Earth vocalist Matt Barlow discussed the possibility of rejoining the band in a recent interview with The Metal Voice.

In the discussion about potential future collaborations, Barlow clarified that all decisions about his involvement would rest with the band’s founder, Jon Schaffer.

“That’s something that would be entirely up to, obviously, when Jon [Schaffer]… That’s Jon’s band — a hundred percent — so that’s something that Jon would have to decide, whether I would be a part of it or not, either way, but whether Iced Earth goes out and does it,” Barlow explained.

He further elaborated on the band’s future: “But I look forward to that, whether it would be me involved with it or somebody else, if that were to happen. And I can’t speak to it, ’cause I don’t think at this point that… It’s not even in the long distance at this point.”

Fans continue to speculate about the band’s future activities.

Barlow’s latest statement emerges amid discussions about potential collaborations with his former band. His history with Iced Earth remains complex.

Reports from Metal Addicts revealed Barlow’s tenure with Iced Earth spanned two distinct periods. His initial run lasted from 1994 to 2003. He later returned for a second stint from 2007 to 2011, marking his final performances with the band.

The band underwent several changes after Barlow’s departure. Blabbermouth reported Schaffer’s confirmation that Stu Block remains the band’s current vocalist. Schaffer explicitly stated Barlow would not return as a permanent member.

Professional connections between Barlow and Schaffer continued despite their separation. Darkside noted that Barlow maintains his writing royalties from previous work. The two musicians also collaborated on the Schaffer/Barlow Project after Barlow’s departure from Iced Earth.

The possibility of a reunion remains uncertain. Both parties currently maintain a respectful professional relationship while pursuing their separate musical projects.
