Måneskin On Competing Against ‘Unbeatable’ ABBA In Awards Show

Måneskin gave an interview to NME in which they reflected on how it felt like competing against ABBA, the iconic band which they consider unbeatable at the Brit Awards 2022.

The 2022 Brit Awards took place at the O2 Arena on February 8, with Adele winning the most awards; the Artist, Song, and Album Of The Year titles. The comedian Mo Gilligan hosted this year’s ceremony for the first time, and fans were able to watch the dazzling show on ITV and YouTube.

This year, the Brit Awards didn’t use the gendered categories for the awards. Instead, they were replaced with the Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year categories. Moreover, they also added four new genre categories: Alternative/Rock Act, Hip-Hop/Grime/Rap Act, Dance Act, and Pop/R&B Act.

The most prominent nominee for the Best International Group was ABBA, the famous Swedish pop music group. The other nominees for the award were BTS, Silk Sonic/Bruno Mars/Anderson .Paak, The War On Drugs, and Måneskin. At the end of the night, Silk Sonic/Bruno Mars/Anderson .Paak received the Best International Group award.

During an interview with NME before the ceremony, Måneskin’s Damiano David revealed his thoughts on being nominated against ABBA for the Best International Group award. He stated that they didn’t expect to be nominated, and they don’t think they will win as they are competing with ABBA, which he described as unbeatable.

In the interview with NME, Damiano David said the following:

“It’s very exciting to be nominated. We didn’t expect it actually. I don’t think we’re going to win because we’re competing with ABBA. ABBA is this thing that’s just so unbeatable. Of course, it would amazing, but for us, it’s just a huge achievement to be nominated.”

Måneskin was also nominated for the International Song Of The Year with their ‘I Wanna Be Your Slave,’ but Olivia Rodrigo took it home with her hit song ‘Good 4 U.’ Despite not winning the award, ABBA has returned to the stages with their newest album ‘Voyage.’ Although they announced they would leave the music scene after the release, it remains unknown whether they will stick to this decision.
