Will Ramos is the vocalist of Lorna Shore. He recently opened up about his struggles in the music industry, sharing his doubts before joining the band in an interview with Louder Sound.
Ramos revealed that he had reached a breaking point in his music career. He was seriously considering abandoning his dreams for a more stable path. He explained the toll that years in the music world had taken on him and his decision-making process at that critical moment.
“I had been in the music world for a little bit at this point, and for me I was getting to the end,” Ramos said. “I was like, dude, honestly, if this doesn’t work out, I’m going to do something else. I didn’t have full confidence [in myself]: I wanted to do something like this, but I just didn’t think I had it in me.”
The vocalist described how fatigue from years of pursuing music had led him to reconsider his priorities. He began thinking about conventional employment.
“I was just tired from doing a bunch of music stuff over the years,” he continued. “Around this time, I was like, ‘I need to start thinking about real jobs.’ It was fun when I was young, but unfortunately for many people in the music world, that’s just what it ends up becoming: it’s fun when you’re young, but then you get older and you have to start doing real stuff.”
Ramos’s near-departure from music came after years of grinding through the underground metal scene. According to Wikipedia, Ramos began his musical journey in the mid-2010s. He performed with metalcore and deathcore acts such as Secrets Don’t Sleep, Flawed Saviour, A Wake in Providence, and Monument of a Memory. These early projects allowed him to develop his vocal techniques through years of self-taught practice, inspired by other deathcore vocalists and driven by a passion for creating extreme sounds without formal training.
His versatility and range eventually caught the attention of Lorna Shore. This led to a touring role in March 2020 as a temporary replacement for CJ McCreery. The Metal Verse notes that Ramos’s first stint with Lorna Shore was as a stand-in vocalist during their European tour. The tour was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this setback, the band was impressed by his live performances. They decided to record a three-song EP, …And I Return to Nothingness, with Ramos to test the creative fit.
The EP was released in 2021 and featured the single “To the Hellfire.” This track became a viral sensation thanks to Ramos’s outrageous vocal performance—especially his signature pig squeals. It broke into mainstream metal conversation. Per New Noise Magazine, the track charted on Spotify’s Viral Charts and earned accolades from major outlets, marking a turning point for both Ramos and the band. The band quickly made Ramos their permanent vocalist. His influence became central to Lorna Shore’s evolving sound, blending symphonic, blackened, and deathcore elements.
In 2022, Lorna Shore released Pain Remains, their first full-length album with Ramos. The album garnered widespread critical acclaim and further cemented their status in the genre. What could have been the end of Ramos’s music career instead became the beginning of a defining chapter in modern deathcore. His perseverance and authenticity proved capable of overcoming industry challenges and personal doubt.
