Lindsey Buckingham recently opened up about possible plans surrounding the 50th anniversary of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours and his renewed relationship with Stevie Nicks. His remarks have sparked widespread excitement about a potential reunion.
Speaking at Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood event, Buckingham addressed an upcoming Fleetwood Mac documentary and what it has meant for the band’s relationships.
“Fleetwood Mac has been working on a documentary coming out in early 2027,” Buckingham said. “So we are celebrating that and I think the process of making that has been a very circular healing process for all of us.”
Buckingham also touched on the state of his long-strained relationship with Stevie Nicks and what the future may hold for the band.
“I wouldn’t want to speculate about Fleetwood Mac’s 2027 plans,” he continued. “Stevie and I had left things… maybe as far as I was concerned, not in a very good place for all the wrong reasons. No one was happy about it, and all of that has been healed and worked out. Stevie and I are talking all the time now.”
The comments are the most optimistic public signal yet from either camp about the state of the band. They arrive at a moment when the Fleetwood Mac story appears to be entering a new chapter.
The rift between Buckingham and Nicks became public in 2018, when Buckingham departed from Fleetwood Mac following reported disagreements over tour timing and other internal tensions. The split cast a long shadow over the band’s future. Nicks stated as recently as 2023 that she saw “no reason” for Fleetwood Mac to continue. The years that followed were marked by silence between the two, making Buckingham’s latest remarks all the more striking.
A thaw began to emerge last year, when Buckingham and Nicks reissued their 1973 joint album Buckingham Nicks. The project brought them back into each other’s orbit. Earlier this year, Buckingham posted on social media about “a resurgence of connection between Stevie and myself,” adding that “what that translates to, we’ll see.” The documentary, first announced in 2024 by Apple, appears to have deepened that reconnection further.
Rumours was released in 1977 and remains Fleetwood Mac’s defining commercial and cultural peak. The album was recorded amid the romantic breakdowns of multiple band members, including Buckingham and Nicks. Its raw emotional honesty made it one of the best-selling albums in history. Its 50th anniversary in 2027 has renewed global interest in the band’s legacy and future.
Despite the warmer tone, Buckingham stopped short of confirming any reunion tour or live plans. He did hint that 2027 would be a significant year, telling E! News: “Next year should be a pretty interesting year.” Whether that translates into a full Fleetwood Mac comeback remains to be seen. For fans, however, the signals have never been more encouraging.
