Metallica’s Kirk Hammett offered an apology to fans for a live mishap at the band’s Power Trip festival performance in Indio, California, on October 8.

Following ‘Orion,’ Metallica started to play ‘Nothing Else Matters,’ but the guitarist made an error during the opening of the song and spoke to the crowd:

“Sorry, guys. I did it again. I screwed it up again. I’m gonna play it again for you.”

He paused for a moment, then returned to the microphone and said:

“You know, it’s really hot in this f*cking desert [Laughs].”

However, this is not the first time Hammett made such a mistake on the stage while playing ‘Nothing Else Matters.’ During the first night of the North American leg of the band’s M72 World Tour, the musician had to stop the performance because of errors in the intro. He said the following to the crowd at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey:

“Okay, it’s the first show…[Laughs] I’m gonna do this intro all over for you guys again. It’s just not good enough for myself, and if it’s not good enough for myself, it’s not good enough for you!”

During Metallica’s headlining performance at the Boston Calling festival in Allston, Massachusetts, on May 29, 2022, Kirk made a similar mistake again for the intro to ‘Nothing Else Matters.’ He even fell to the ground briefly in a playful manner. Hammett then got back up and told the audience that he had gotten distracted by how amazing they were.

As part of their M72 World Tour to promote their latest album, ’72 Seasons,’ Metallica introduced a new touring concept named ‘No Repeat Weekend.’ It involves the band performing for two consecutive nights at a single venue. They play entirely distinct setlists on each of these nights, and they also have different opening acts.

Following the North American leg, which will end in Detroit on November 12, Metallica will head towards Europe in May 2024, and then they will be back in America in August for more shows.
