Kid Rock took to X to tell fans to report AI scammers to the FBI.
“This has happened using my name and likeness many times. Hard to believe some people fall for it,” the singer wrote in his post, sharing Fox News’ news with the title ‘AI scammers pretending to be Brad Pitt con woman out of $850,000.’
He continued, “Really sad, but if I am being honest, also really dumb. Sorry, No way to sugar coat it. If it has happened to you or you feel you are being seriously trolled, contact the FBI. But beware and forewarned.”
As Fox News reported, a woman thought she was in a relationship with Brad Pitt, but it turned into a nightmare. French TV show ‘Sept à Huit’ shared the story of Anne, a 53-year-old designer, who lost €830,000 (about $850,000). She believed she was helping Pitt, who she thought had cancer.
Scammers used fake documents, photos, and AI to trick her into believing it was real. A representative for Pitt told Fox News Digital the situation with Anne was ‘awful.’ They said, “It’s awful that scammers take advantage of fans’ strong connection with celebrities but this is an important reminder to not respond to unsolicited online outreach, especially from actors who have no social media presence.”
Pitt doesn’t have any official social media accounts. In February 2023, Anne was contacted on Instagram by someone claiming to be Pitt’s 85-year-old mother, Jane Etta Pitt, via BFM TV. The message reportedly said, “It’s a woman like you that my son needs.”
Anne also said, via AFP, “At first I said to myself that it was fake, that it’s ridiculous. But I’m not used to social media and I didn’t really understand what was happening to me. My mother told me a lot about you.”
Anne received many romantic messages, poems, and fake photos. Others joined the scam, pretending to be Pitt’s manager and daughter, Shiloh, to make it believable. Anne was suspicious about not seeing the actor, so the scammer sent her an AI-made video.
The scammer first asked her to pay over 9,000 euros for customs fees to receive luxury gifts. After Anne mentioned her 775,000-euro divorce settlement, the scammer claimed he had kidney cancer and couldn’t pay for treatments due to his divorce with Jolie. Anne ended up sending most of her settlement to the fake Pitt.
This has happened using my name and likeness many times. Hard to believe some people fall for it. Really sad, but if I am being honest, also really dumb. Sorry, No way to sugar coat it. If it has happened to you or you feel you are being seriously trolled, contact the FBI. But…
