Keith Richards Recalls Paul McCartney’s Note After Labeling The Rolling Stones As A Cover Band
Keith Richards recently joined Rolling Stone Music Now for an interview during which he revealed that Paul McCartney approached him following his remark about Rolling Stones, claiming they are just a cover band.
In 1987, Mick Jagger started a friendly feud between the Rolling Stones and the Beatles by saying that the Beatles’ break up was a brilliant idea. In the following years, the war of words continued, and back in October 2021, Paul McCartney described the Stones as a blues cover band while saying the Beatles are better than them as they have a more comprehensive range.
Although McCartney also praised the Stones members’ musical talents in his statements, these remarks sparked a controversy. At a show at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Mick Jagger also sarcastically addressed McCartney’s statement and said McCartney is also there to help them cover a blues song.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone Music Now, Keith Richards revealed something interesting about the controversy around the Beatle’s remarks. He stated that he got a note from McCartney which indicated that his words were taken out of context.
Moreover, Richards stated that he and McCartney know each other, and he thought McCartney’s words were edited and deleted when he read the statements. According to the guitarist, McCartney informed him the next day to tell that the press distorted his statements.
In the interview with Rolling Stone Music Now, Keith Richards said the following:
“I got a note from Paul about that, saying ‘I was taken totally out of context.’ He said, ‘That’s what I thought when I first heard them.’ Paul and I know each other pretty well, and when I first read it, I said, ‘There’s been a lot of deleting and editing going on here.’ And the next day, I got a message from Paul saying, ‘If you’ve read this sh*t, it’s all out of context, believe me, boys.'”
As it appears, Keith Richards argues that McCartney never intended to say that Stones is a blues cover band in the first place. Moreover, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that there wasn’t an actual feud between the two rock music legends after all.
