Journey tribute band, Voyage, recently announced on social media that they parted ways with vocalist Hugo Valenti after 20 years together, sparking some rumors.
“Our journey together has been memorable, and we wish him nothing but success in all his future endeavors,” the band wrote.
Noting their new singer would be revealed soon, the announcement continued, “Our commitment to delivering an authentic Journey experience remains stronger than ever. We’re excited for you to witness this new chapter in our story, and we’re beyond grateful for your continued support.”
A following post introduced Pedro Espada as Valenti’s replacement, featuring a black-and-white video of him singing Journey’s 1983 track ‘Faithfully.’
Following the announcements, fans started speculating about why Valenti left. The most popular theory suggested he might replace Arnel Pineda as Journey’s lead vocalist though there’s no official word on that from the band.
“Wouldn’t it be wild if Hugo left to join the real Journey band?” one comment read while another asked, “So, is Hugo going to Journey? That would be amazing!”
A fan expanded on the idea, explaining, “Hugo doesn’t struggle to hit any notes. He tried out for Journey after Steve Perry left. Neal [Schon] said he looked and sounded too much like Steve Perry. I think Neal likes all the attention on him.”
Arnel Pineda has long faced criticism for his performances with Journey, especially after a Rock in Rio show where he had issues with an ear monitor. Despite this, Pineda showed no intention of leaving. After the event, he even challenged fans on social media, saying he would leave if one million people commented ‘go.’
Why Valenti left Voyage or if he will join Journey remains unclear at the moment with no explanation from the bands. What is certain is that Voyage will start their next tour with Pedro Espada on January 24 in Bethlehem, PA.
