Former Foo Fighters drummer Josh Freese shared an ironic update about his royalty payments from the band on Instagram.

Freese posted a photo of a royalty check from Foo Fighters in a recent Instagram story. The check showed an amount of “zero dollars and 97 cents.” He shared it with a sarcastic comment about his departure from the band.

“At least I’m currently getting fat royalty checks showing up in my mailbox,” Freese said.

The drummer’s sardonic post followed his previously announced sudden dismissal from Foo Fighters. The minimal amount on the check inspired his ironic “fat royalty” characterization.

This latest development adds another chapter to Freese’s brief but notable tenure with the band.

Soap Central reported that Freese joined Foo Fighters in May 2023 as their touring drummer after Taylor Hawkins’ tragic loss. His tenure with the band ended unexpectedly in May 2025.

Loudwire revealed that the Foo Fighters planned to move “in a different direction” with their drummer. The band provided no detailed explanation for the sudden change.

Freese had already established himself as a highly respected drummer in the rock music scene before joining Foo Fighters. Soap Central highlighted his impressive collaborations with major acts including Nine Inch Nails, Guns N’ Roses, and Devo.

Freese announced his departure on May 12, 2025. The band has remained silent about their future drumming plans. Fans continue to speculate about their next move.
