Matching some songs with specific moments, memories, and feelings is something we all experience. When this matching is completed, we may even feel the same thing with the same intensity and liveliness, even if it’s been a long time. Killing Joke’s ‘The Death and Resurrection Show,’ which accompanied Johnny Depp during his painkiller addiction, also has a similar effect on the actor. Speaking to SiriusXM, Depp shared his feelings about this track, which is also the second song of their new album with Jeff Beck.
“But, I mean, it’s such an intense song,” he said, emphasizing the song’s powerful impact on him. “It was a really important song for me, like after I had my little stint with kind of an interesting addiction to painkillers and coming off of those kicking the opiates. I remember sitting in this chair for about five days, listening to ‘Death And Resurrection Show’ on a loop, and I just sat there sort of holding on.”
“There’s something about that song. It’s very, yeah, I don’t know, personal and powerful,” he continued, sharing his pleasure to perform this particular track in his collaborative work with Jeff Beck. “That was great that we ended up doing that one. At least for me, it feels like a cleanse, yes. I arrived at the place where I could actually play the song and not just have to listen to it, gripping a metal chair [laughs].”
Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck’s latest release, ‘18,’ came July 15, 2022. ‘Death and Resurrection Show’ is the second track of the record, and they have been playing this song, which has a special place for Johnny Depp during their tours. The album also features two original songs penned by Depp, along with covers from Marvin Gaye, the Beach Boys, the Miracles, the Velvet Underground, and the Everly Brothers.
It’s only been six years since Johnny Depp met Jeff Beck, but a good friendship started from the moment they met. This friendship later evolved into a musical collaboration, which is not surprising, considering that perhaps the most obvious common point between the two is their love of rock music. This friendship and cooperation seem to work well for both of them, and they apparently enjoy being around each other.
