John Lennon’s son Julian Lennon sat down with The Guardian for a new interview and opened up about his relationship with The Beatles and his position within the band’s inner circle. When asked about the resurgence of interest in The Beatles, particularly because of Peter Jackson’s Get Back, the restored Let It Be film, and Martin Scorsese’s Beatles ’64, Julian shared that he has always felt on the outside.

“It’s news to me half the time. I’m not part of the inner circle – I never have been. You have to realize that when Dad left, when I was between three and five (it was a bit of a process), it was just mum and me, and we had nothing to do with the Beatles or Dad.”

He also shared that he is now closer than ever to his brother Sean. “I visited him on the odd occasion but we were very much on the outside. I’m thankful that Sean and I get on like a house on fire – we’re best buddies and he tells me what he can, but things are pretty secret on the Beatles front.”

Julian also admitted that even though he isn’t involved with the band, he still appreciates their legacy and is fascinated by it. “It feels extraordinarily strange, but I’m not upset about it. I’d rather be excited and impressed by what they did and continue to do,” he said.

Julian went on to share that, as a fan, he too is curious about The Beatles’ influence. “As a fan, I’m just as curious as anybody else, although I do find myself going, how is it possible that there’s another Beatles film?”

In other news, Julian recently took to social media to encourage his followers to take their health seriously after undergoing emergency surgery for a second skin cancer diagnosis. On December 30, he updated his followers with good news, revealing that he had received the ‘all clear’ from his doctors. He reminded fans to stay proactive about their health and seek medical attention when needed.
