John Bush recently opened up about his ongoing tour celebrating his era with Anthrax. He clarified his motivations and goals for the shows in an interview with Lucky Star Radio.

When asked about his biggest takeaway from the tour and celebration of his time with Anthrax, Bush emphasized that the primary focus is on creating an enjoyable experience rather than financial gain.

“Well, I mean, for one, the most important thing is fun. I mean, it’s going to be fun, so that’s the objective, you know, really, that’s number one,” Bush said. “This is not some big cash cow, I’m not going to get retired from this by any means.”

Bush acknowledged the positive response to the shows while maintaining his focus on the experience itself.

“I’m glad that the shows are doing really well. I’m glad they are, but I think the objective is to have a fun time doing it,” he continued. “Play some stuff that is going to bring, take people back because it’s nostalgic. We’re talking 20 to 30 years old of this material, so it’s not new stuff.”

The former Anthrax vocalist expressed excitement about presenting older material in a fresh way. He also spoke about connecting with fans through both popular tracks and deeper cuts.

“That being said, I think it’s gonna sound very fresh, probably because it hasn’t been played much in the last 20 to 30 years,” Bush explained. “I’m looking to have a great time and just bond with the fans and take them back and have them be part of it. And there’s a lot of great tunes there, the ones that are obvious choices and ones that are a little deeper tracks.”

Bush concluded by noting his approach to song selection and his anticipation for the performances ahead.

“And I’ve tried to listen to what people have suggested and at the same time, you know, kind of picking my personal favorites as well, so it’s gonna be fun,” he said. “It’s gonna be awesome. I’m gonna mix it up a little bit and we’ll see how it’s gonna go. It’s gonna be cool. We are looking forward.”

Bush focuses on his Anthrax retrospective tour while remaining active with multiple musical projects that showcase his versatility as a performer.

Bush’s current activities extend beyond the nostalgic tour. He continues to lead his primary band Armored Saint. Blabbermouth reported that Armored Saint has a ninth studio album tentatively scheduled for release in April via Metal Blade Records. The album is being mixed by Jay Ruston. This upcoming release demonstrates Bush’s commitment to creating new material alongside celebrating his past work.

The veteran vocalist has also been making guest appearances with other metal acts. Chaoszine noted that Bush recently performed with Metal Allegiance at their January 22 show in Anaheim. He shared the stage with other notable metal musicians including Testament’s Chuck Billy. These collaborative performances highlight Bush’s continued relevance and respect within the metal community.

Bush’s diverse musical involvement reflects his enduring passion for metal music across different eras and styles. His ability to balance retrospective tours celebrating his Anthrax years with ongoing creative projects through Armored Saint and guest appearances demonstrates his commitment to both honoring his musical legacy and continuing to evolve as an artist.

The singer’s approach to his current tour emphasizes authenticity over commercial gain. This philosophy aligns with his broader career trajectory of prioritizing artistic integrity and fan connection over purely financial considerations. This perspective has helped maintain his credibility within the metal scene throughout his decades-long career.
