Jimmy Page’s Confession About ‘Stairway To Heaven’ Of Led Zeppelin
Undoubtedly, artists are very different and unique considering the areas where they choose to work, such as music, literature, theatre, and many more. Even though every one of them can be extremely hard and emotionally and physically painful to be part of for various personal and other reasons, most artists are known for their never-ending passion for pursuing productive careers.
However, artists’ perspectives towards their jobs, careers, and works they have created can change. There are many reasons behind this situation, and sometimes the artists decide to open up about it while talking with reporters or colleagues. In one of them, Led Zeppelin icon Jimmy Page shared his ideas about their legendary song ‘Stairway To Heaven.’
The Details About Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway To Heaven’
Led Zeppelin released their untitled fourth studio album, which was commonly known as ‘Led Zeppelin IV’ on November 8, 1971, and it got critical acclaim with its well-crafted sounds and lyrics along with band members’ performances as instrumentalists and songwriters. The record sold millions and became number one on the charts worldwide, making it one of the band’s best-selling albums.
The album produced many Led Zeppelin classics, including ‘The Battle of Evermore,’ ‘When the Levee Breaks,’ and of course, ‘Stairway To Heaven,’ which became most fans’ favorite song. However, the band’s guitarist Jimmy Page surprisingly started to disagree with the longtime followers after decades of playing and hearing.
What Did Jimmy Page Say To Nancy Wilson About The Song?
The Kennedy Center Honors annually award the artists that created milestone works that influenced millions of people, especially in the beginning. The ceremonies occur in the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, D.C., and different icons receive awards. In 2012, Buddy Guy, Dustin Hoffman, David Letterman, Natalia Makarova, and Led Zeppelin were honored thanks to their contribution to American culture in their areas.
For this night, Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson performed Led Zeppelin’s iconic song ‘Stairway To Heaven,’ which received very positive reviews from the audience and the band members. In her appearance on Talk Is Jericho, Nancy Wilson unveiled a conversation between her and Page by stating that the guitarist appreciated their playing. Page said they nailed it even though he learned to hate the song probably because of listening to its worst covers for a long time or getting bored of mainly being known with ‘Stairway To Heaven’ only.
In Wilson’s words, she said:
“I was all about myself to start the song, and I was just as methodical as I could possibly be, and later Jimmy Page said, ‘You played that great. I learned to hate this song, but you guys nailed it.“
